Simple décor yet excellent fresh fish in huge portions (you have to be hungry to have both a starter and a main course). Service is good even if the waitresses can appear a bit frosty at first - it's worth persevering as they are really rather friendly underneath. Seating outside in summer with a nice atmosphere as there are a few ther restaurants and pubs nearby which laso spill out onto the pavement. One of my favourites.

Excellent Restaurant in covered courtyard in the Wallace Collection Museum. Although the restaurant area is large, it doesn't suffer from the accoustic problems often associated with restaurants in 'unusual' places. The ambience is informal but elegant, and the service is impeccable. Surprisingly for the Wallace Collection which speciallises in the 'frou-frou' decortive arts of earlier times, the cooking is good quality modern british, well executed and neither over-fussy nor over-priced. BamBou is a chic Vietnamese inspired eatery in the heart of Fitzrovia. This olive-green converted town house, with various dining rooms, bars and cosy alcoves spread over four floors, has been injected with a seductive Far Eastern persona; it takes French-Vietnamese food as its cuisine, and French Colonial style as the decor. A narrow hallway leads to an airy interior adorned with lacquer, hardwoods and Buddhist artefacts and exudes a feeling of mysterious charm and sexy decadence. The head chef, together with the North Vietnamese consultant chef Mei Fung, ensure the authenticity of the cooking, and the slick and attentive crew add to the ambience.

Bamboo Grove
Located in the heart of Croydon, Bamboo Grove offers an upmarket dining experience.
This fine dining restaurant has an excellent menu, specialising in Nouveau Caribbean cuisine. Head Chef Anthony Cumberbatch, (the Savoy, the Ivy and Quaglinos), naturally fuses Caribbean and modern European cuisine, to create beautifully presented dishes which are as pleasing to the palate as they are to the eye.
Alongside the gourmet menu Bamboo Grove offers a comprehensive list of exquisite wines selected from around the globe.
Don't miss out on the superb cocktail list, especially the restaurant's very own special Carib Rum Punch, but be warned: It carries a hefty kick!
The smartly-dressed staff along with the elegant surroundings, make it easy to unwind and enjoy a taste of the Caribbean in style.

As a regular of this restaurant I am suprised you have no entry?! It is the best value and friendliest modern British restaurant in town. They have forerib steaks on at £9 (which is the most expensive thing on the menu) which are fab! The restaurant has been open for three years and is an excellant party venue, I went there for a party for 150 people and I've been told they will do parties for upto 300. We go there all the time it is fresh, buzzing and affordable, it's great.

Belgo Noord 'the original moule house' was opened in 1992 and introduced the continental brewery eating hall culture to London. With a modern approach to Belgian cuisine - the restaurant is based on Belgian food and an enormous selection of beer in funky suroundings!! Great seafood, 'Psycho Kilo' pots of moules, perfect Belgian frites, loads of different beers, special promotions and waiters dressed as Trappist monks!!! - what more could you want?

Belgo Zuid, which opened in March 1999 pays homage to the Belgian cyclist folk hero, Eddy Merckx, the result is a spectacular geometrical restaurant with a velodrome-like main eating hall. The Belgo signature Moules Frites dishes prepared in 10 different ways feature on the menu, as do the other favourites like Stoemp and wild boar sausages, hearty Carbonnades and home-made ice creams. These are complemented by some great new additions to the menu including spider crab bisque served with new potatoes and deep fried soft shell crab with a lemon geneva dressing. In true Belgian tradition, Belgo Zuid is as serious about drinking as about eating , offering 101 potent Belgian brews!!!

Famous Italian restaurant on Charlotte Street. I think it was breifly featured in the film 'Sliding Doors'. The food in the brasserie downstairs is a little hit or miss, but upstairs in the more expensive a la carte restaurant, the food is better.
Unusually, the gentlements toilets are also worth noting... instead of urinals there is a modernist waterfall for your service.

New restaurant brings a taste of Nigeria to London
A brand new Nigerian restaurant has opened in London with a promise of great food at reasonable prices. Biazo, in Hale Lane Edgware, has opened shop in time for Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1 intent on filling the gap in the market for quality Nigerian restaurants.
Biazo, the brainchild of husband and wife team, Bola and Kemi Olukoya, is a contemporary-styled restaurant that serves up a rich cuisine reflecting the exoticness of Nigerian culture. The 50-seater restaurant provides the kind of traditional menu you’d expect to find traveling around Nigeria, giving people the chance to try something different from the usual Friday night takeaways. Guests who have never sampled African food before will find a true taste of Nigeria in delicacies like the flame grilled suya (a tasty serving of spicy barbequed beef/goat cooked in local herbs and spices), the popular jollof rice, a mainstay rice dish in Nigeria, Senegal and Gambia, deliciously cooked in onions, tomatoes and pepper sauces or the Edikang-Ikong, a vegetable stew made with a blend of Pumpkin leaves, and water leaves combined with traditional African spices
“People need to see Nigeria through our eyes,” says founder Kemi Olukoya. “Nigeria is a colourful country with lots of great potential but the bad publicity very often means people don’t get to see or experience the rich culture. We hope Biazo will change all that. As we prepare to celebrate Nigeria’s independence from the United Kingdom on October 1, we hope it’ll be a chance for people to come out and sample what Nigeria has to offer. They might be pleasantly surprised.”
Serving lunch and dinner at affordable prices, Biazo transforms from a vibrant atmosphere during the day to relaxed evenings, with soft lighting, music and visual delights from around Africa and African themed paintings to provide the perfect eating environment.
“There’s a real gap in the market for this,” adds Bola Olukoya. “We cannot deny that lots of Nigerian restaurants have risen up in London in recent times but we can say confidently that Nigerian cuisine isn’t presented very well a lot of times because for diners, quality and ambience is usually high on the menu. We don’t just want to provide good food; we want to provide great food and an unrivalled atmosphere along with exceptional customer service.”
Kemi Olukoya says, “The Biazo experience will be truly unique for those looking for homely atmosphere in which to dine and enjoy delicious African food in an African themed environment. Why not drop by today and judge for yourself?”

Large, informal restaurant on St Martin's lane. Cheaper than you would expect. Good for quick pre/post theatre meals and a useful place to meet as there is a large bar area. The food is slightly unadventurous, but this ensures the kitchens can produce dishes of consistent quality considering the number of covers.
As it's a Bass group venue, both the location and the food find it hard to shake off the feel of a typical pub chain.
