Absolutely wonderful, fresh Italian food, in a shopping center on King's Road. Amazing food, including a melt-in-your-mouth perfectly cooked venison with a potato cake to die for and simply perfect homemade pasta. Service is prompt and cheerful but unobtrusive. 9/10

This understated spacious hangout has become representative of Islington’s hip and urbanities from other parts of London. The food has been described as having a taste that is “LASTING” and the ambience “LIKE BEING IN L.A. OR CHICAGO” – (See January 2004 version of Black Enterprise magazine). The choice of dishes is intriguing - from Ivorian Chicken and sweet potatoes to Cayenne Plantain with Red Fish Fillet and sautéed vegetables, but both with a twist - and the consistent quality of the food is outstanding. The starter, Senegalese Fishcakes filled with salmon, potatoes, ginger and chilli, seems to be a favourite amongst its regular patrons. The justly fabled Manjaro meat platter is a perennial favourite for the avid meat eater, as well as the impressive selection of cocktails, wines, draught and bottled beers which will either compliment the varied African dishes or slip down well whilst supping at the bar.

London's only real Italian ice cream parlour, also serves standard Italian food. The ice creams are slightly richer than those you would normally get in Italy, but I guess this is to cater to the UK's taste. I just wish there were more Italian ice cream parlours in London. Like one on every street!

This place says it's traditional Japanese food in a modern setting. There are three different areas to eat in and they all look pretty cool. One is a big airy dining room for hot meals, the second a kind of bar/counter thingy behind which the chefs stand making sushi, downstairs there are teppan hot plates. The food is fantastic and met the approval of my fussy friend who'd just come back from Japan. I really like the duck teppanyaki and the dobinmushi (clear seafood soup). It's the ideal place for lunch with someone you want to impress or to treat yourself. The cocktails are delicious though so I'll be going in in the evenings too when I can relax.

The Mirabelle is one of the many restaurants managed by Marco Pierre White, and is considered one of his finest. The elegant dining room is a perfect venue to sample classic frence cuisine at its finest. Unlike many restaurants of this caliber, the food is not over-fussy, allowing the quality of the ingredients and skill of preparation to shine through. The service is unfaultable: attentive yet unobtrusive, knowledgeable yet uncodescending.
