Still seems to be going strong, despite the much publicised departure of Tom Atkins. Ambience could be better but service excellent. Food can be rich, you may need a few walks around the block afterwards, but for the occasional treat, you can't do much better.

Porters English Restaurant was founded by Richard, 7th Earl of Bradford, in 1979 to supply a glaring need for reasonably priced, real English food in Central London.
With its own homemade bangers (sausages), beer battered cod and chips, and individual steak and kidney puddings, along with superb traditional British puddings like spotted dick and Lady Bradford's sticky gingerbread pudding, you cannot get more English than Porters.
Lord Bradford describes it as specialising in the sort of food that you might have hoped to find in London pubs, but ended up curiously with lasagne instead!
Most importantly, with no cover charge, starters and puddings, £3.25, and most main courses with a side order at £8.95, a meal at Porters does not cost a fortune.
At their stunningly designed bar next door, you can enjoy excellent British beers, as well as trendy cocktails, and great bar food.

literally up there with the best of them.
With the London Eye, Canary Wharf, Houses of
Parliament and Nelson's Column fully visible
from this vertiginous vantage point
overlooking Leicester Square, this is a
pretty amazing place to sip cocktails and eat
well. Penthouse occupies the sixth, seventh
and eighth floors of what was once superclub

restaurant is the culinary stomping ground of
Martin Davies who lists boasts Asia de Cuba
and New York's Soho House on his CV. His
Pacific Rim menu with its touches of Thai,
Japan and China is very urban, very trendy,
very pleasing.
